4Weeks Pregnant

Congratulations! You are now officially 3 weeks pregnant. One lucky sperm has finally managed to bore its way through the egg’s outer shell.

At 3 Weeks Pregnant, your little miracle who will be ready to meet the rest of the world in less than nine months is now a microscopic ball  made up of hundreds of rapidly multiplying cells at the rate of as many as one hundred thousand per minute. This ball is known as the morula and is the size of the head of a pin. It can now be seen with the naked eye.

Amniotic fluid is slowly forming  to cushion and protect your baby from  from harm in the future days. Through the next six days, it will make its way to the uterus where it will shack up and start producing the pregnancy hormone HCG (Human Chorionic Gonadotropin). At the end of the week, you should be able to get a positive pregnancy test.

Your changing body

If you weren’t expecting to get pregnant, you may still be unaware that you are 3 Weeks pregnant. Your body is awash with hormones right now and many women are likely to experience a mix of pregnancy symptoms ranging from nausea and vomiting or morning sickness to cramping, a change in vaginal discharge and a heightened sense of smell. Do not be alarmed if you notice some spotting this week. This is implantation bleeding which may occur as a result of the fertilized egg implanting in the uterus this is an early sign of pregnancy.

Nausea and vomiting are normal during pregnancy. Always carry a pack of water wipes in your hand bag to clean up the mess quickly anywhere anytime. Shop Now at The MumsVillageShop

Your baby is growing at a fast rate at this point. But, do not be worried if instead of weight gain you notice a weight loss. This should be expected especially if you are experiencing morning sickness. These changes may take a toll on your body. Set aside some time to rest. Foods rich in folic acid as well as calcium are also important at this stage.

This week’s tip: If you have been trying or expecting to get a baby, you can purchase a home pregnancy kit/buy a pregnancy test online at the end of this week. For the best results, take the test in the morning when the HCG levels are highest in the urine. If it turns out positive proceed to contact an obstetrician or midwife who will give you advice on the required lifestyle changes as well as guidance on a schedule for future visits. You could still continue working at this stage as its still the early stages of your pregnancy.
