12 Weeks Pregnant
You are finally 12 weeks pregnant and completing your 1st Trimester. At this stage your baby is the size of a tomato.
His eyes have moved from the side of his head to the front and looks more human than ever. In fact, soon he will be able to clench those eye muscles as well as curl his toes. Synapses are fast forming in his brain and his reflexes are also fast developing. If you poke your tummy, he will move in response but you will not be able to feel him move for a few weeks.
Most of his bodily systems are almost fully formed and all that your little one will be doing for the next 28 weeks is mature these systems and grow bigger and heavier.
Your changing body
While your baby is fast growing, it is unlikely that the pregnancy is showing. At 12 weeks pregnant, your uterus is also moving from the bottom part of your pelvis to the center part of your abdomen. This is good news because it means that for a while, you will stop feeling that constant pressure to urinate. This however doesn’t mean that you stop doing kegel exercises. Keep doing them because in a few months’ time, your growing belly will put a lot of pressure on your bladder. These exercises will help you keep incontinence at bay.
With the morning sickness easing, you are probably feeling hungrier. It is okay to indulge now and again but go easy on the junk food and opt instead for more nourishing foods. Remember that you are not just eating for yourself and each meal has to be thought out. But, there are cooking classes and cooking schools in Kenya that can help with that.
This week, you will start feeling dizzy. This should be no cause for alarm. The pregnancy hormones are causing your blood vessels to widen and relax so as to increase blood flow to your growing munchkin. You can manage this feeling of dizziness and light headedness by avoiding standing up too fast. Should you feel dizzy, sit with your head between your knees and take deep breaths.
This week’s tip: By the time you are 12 weeks pregnant, you’re at the end of the first trimester. And the chances for a miscarriage have dipped. Now may be the time to tell your parents that they are going to be grandparents. While it’s always a personal choice as to when to share the good news and with whom, this is considered by many as the safe time to announce your pregnancy to the world. Also, if you do it now, you get to say it in person rather than wait for your growing belly to announce itself.
