1 Week Pregnant

You are probably going about your business blissfully unaware that the great joy of your life is just about to be conceived when you are 1 week pregnant.

At week one of pregnancy, somewhat surprisingly, obstetricians do not always consider you pregnant as they typically use the first day of your last normal menstruation period as day one of the pregnancy to help calculate the expected due date.

If you are trying to get pregnant, you can predict when your little one will come along by adding seven days to the first day of your last period, subtracting three months and then adding twelve months. Keep in mind that this is just an estimate and not the exact date.

The egg in your body has left the ovary for the Fallopian tubes and available for fertilization for a period of between 12 and 24 hours.  Conception is set to happen any time now It’s difficult to pinpoint the exact moment of conception but as soon as it does occur, your little one’s brain and heart will start growing rapidly.


Your body

At this point, there are few noticeable physical changes to your body for most women but a lot is going on inside. At conception, the sex of your baby will be assigned. If only they weren’t pea sized when you are 1 week pregnant then you would know whether to start shopping for pinks, blues or neutrals.

Soon after, you will start seeing signs that you are pregnant like fatigue, mood swings, loss of interest in things, tender breasts and constipation. Still, especially if you haven’t been expecting to get pregnant, these symptoms are likely to pass unnoticed. Even if you do notice them, you are likely to attribute them to other things like your impending menstruation or your demanding job, or simply just healthy weight gain. The question am I pregnant? is not even on your mind.

This week’s tip: If you have been trying to get pregnant, as your body prepares for conception, now when you are 1 week pregnant is high time to watch your nutrition. It is also the right time to give up drinking and smoking, recreational drugs and caffeine.

Also, if you are trying to get pregnant, this is the time to track your daily morning temperature. Do this every morning. {The mornings that your thermometer records a significantly higher temperature are your ovulation days}.
