Long life, better health and work-life balance. It’s what everyone is looking for and rightly so. The key to living a longer life intentionally is cultivating healthy habits. These lifestyle habits habits, no matter how small, cumulatively add up to improve your quality of life, productivity, relationships and your perception of life.
Integrate these practices into your daily life routine, and start living a balanced life as you have always wanted.
Get Enough Sleep
In a world where productivity, efficiency and goals are constantly preached about; it’s easy to believe hard work brings success as you overwork yourself.
Lack of sleep leads to burnout, stress and diseases which could have been prevented. According to the Guardian, “Inadequate sleep for just one week disrupts the blood sugar levels so profoundly you’d be classified as pre-diabetic.”
For the last two weeks, I have been sleeping and waking up at consistent times with no alarm as I try to figure out the best downtime hours for my body type. This means I don’t have a set alarm clock. Determine the number of hours you need per night and endeavour to sleep that amount of hours a night. On average, you will need around 7-9 hours of sleep.
Get your hours right and adopt a healthy sleeping pattern.
Eat Healthy Snacks
Most people snack while working. The average person will spend around 90,000 hours of their lifetime at work. Which means a third of your life is spent at work.
Pack healthy snacks like nuts, grapes, and make healthy smoothies to go with your snack.
Additionally, you can pack Minute Maid Nutridefense orange juice. It’s fortified with Zinc, and Vitamin E which is great for you both nutritionally and emotionally as it’ll help give you that feel good vibe.
These supplements are great for the body’s immune system, cardiovascular system, and promotes optimal health. Apart from the added health advantage, there is also a boost in confidence when you know you’re living right.
Drink More Water
It’s recommended that you take water every morning before breaking your fast. Water, cushions the brain, forms mucus and saliva and also lubricates joints.
When you’re dehydrated, you’re more likely to experience fatigue, dizziness, dry skin and headaches. Add water, preferably warm to your morning routine for more healthy days ahead.
Arrange Your House and Work Space
A cluttered house makes a cluttered mind. You don’t need a sense of disorganization to prove you have been working but a clutter-free space promotes efficiency.
Decluttering your space clears your mind, your psyche and sets the tone for great days in the week. If you’re a hoarder, you might want to get rid of the old when you purchase another. We tend to keep unnecessary items in our drawers, work space and personal lives which becomes overwhelming to look at.
Declutter your house today.
You can enroll in a class, a gym or count the number of steps you walk every day. Nowadays, there are Apps to inform you how many steps you have walked in a day, motivating you into a consistent exercise routine.
Physical exercise, apart from having health benefits allows you to decompress by distracting you from life worries and improving your sleep patterns. Physical fitness has a way of boosting your intellectual activity, energy levels and confidence.
Who doesn’t want that?
Have a Standing Desk or Stand More
As a writer, I should take this advice and implement it. Sitting for long hours demotivates your body to be active. Standing will strengthen your leg and back muscles, reduce chronic back pain and reduces the risk of getting various diseases.
Get a Journal and Start Journaling
With journaling, you process your thoughts in real-time. Allow yourself to follow a stream of consciousness as you write how you feel and how the day or week went.
Get in touch with your feelings.
Alternatively, you can use journaling prompts to help you start, read more on journaling and see whether it’s an option you can explore. However, I cannot emphasize enough the importance of journaling.
Whether you choose, two, three of all of these lifestyle habits, you’ll agree that you’re making your life more enjoyable by cultivating habits that have a positive impact in the long run. You might already be practising some of these habits, and can attest to the benefits.
