Easy Chocolate Cake Recipe
Do you ever get that strong chocolate craving? Like you just can’t wait to sink your teeth into a nice big slice of moist, rich, chocolate cake? With Mother’s Day around the corner, this is a great cake to make with your kids. In fact, it is such an easy recipe that Dad can supervise the kiddies to make it for Mum as a surprise!
All you need is a bowl, a few ingredients, and a wooden spoon. For an extra fun touch, you can get the kids to decorate it with a sweet message for Mum using smarties or coloured sprinkles!
TOTAL TIME: Preparation: 15 min. Bake: 40 minutes
SERVES: 15 people
Ingredients
- 2 cups plain flour
- 2 cups castor sugar
- 1/2 cup baking cocoa
- 2 teaspoons bicarbonate
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 large eggs, beaten
- 1 cup avena cooking oil
- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup hot water (or hot coffee)
- Glace icing or grated chocolate
- Coloured sprinkles or smarties, optional

Directions
Preheat oven to 350°. Grease a 13×9-in. baking pan. In a large bowl, whisk the first six ingredients. Stir in eggs, Avena cooking oil and milk. Add water or coffee and stir until combined.
Transfer batter to prepared pan. Bake 35-40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in centre comes out clean. Cool completely in pan on a wire rack. Put the icing on the cake. Have your child decorate with sprinkles or smarties if desired.
Chocolate Icing sugar: In a large bowl, beat 1/2 cup softened butter until creamy. Beat in 2 cups icing sugar, 1/4 cup baking cocoa, 1-1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract and 3-4 tablespoons milk to achieve desired consistency.
