Own Your Glow: 10 tips to Brilliant Skin
Who doesn’t want radiant skin? Looking to start this journey to a natural glow but not sure how? Here are 10 tips that can equip with all you need;
1.Cleanse
Avoid harsh cleansers that can strip your skin of the necessary oils. Instead, look for a sulfate free cleaner as it will clean your face without stripping your skin of its protective acidic mantle. Better yet, find a cleanser with organic ingredients that will soothe and clean the your skin at the same time! Natural ingredients include but are not limited to coconut oil, Aloe Vera, chamomile and oats.
2. Toner
Believe it or not, cleansers are not 100% effective in cleaning your face – that’s where toning comes in! Toners work to remove the remaining bits of oil, dirt and debris left behind by the cleanser. Toners also help to nourish and hydrate the skin while restoring your skin’s pH balance . Just like the cleansers, the more natural the product, the better it is for your skin! A good homemade toner is an easy combination of lemon juice and water. Not sure which toner would work best for your skin type? Curejoy’s example of easy homemade recipes are a must-try!

It also increases blood circulation to your skin’s surface and will kick-start that natural glow of yours up again .A mixture of brown sugar, olive oil and honey is a great natural exfoliate! Remember – try not to be too aggressive as over-scrubbing can cause your skin irritation. So be gentle!
4. Face Mask
Let me put it this way, if cleansing, toning and exfoliating is Destiny’s Child, then a good face mask is Beyoncé. It’s everything in one, royalty, and magic, snatching your WHOLE life in 15 minutes – I’m done. In all seriousness, the right face mask can, remove excess oils, hydrate skin and help improve the appearance of your pores. Once a week, channel your inner Yoncé and apply a natural face mask. 5. Sunscreen
Before you ask, the answer is yes! People of colour should wear sunscreen. Our risks may be low but we are not exempt form damages of heat rays and side effects of excessive sun exposure. Sunscreen protects the skin from harmful UV rays and premature aging of the skin among other things. Daily sunscreen application or moisturizer with an SPF of 30, is recommended. So what’s it gonna be – untimely wrinkles or supple, fresh skin? Thought so.

A huge path to the journey to good skin is what you put into your body. Develop a diet with low sugar, rich in antioxidants, consisting of colorful fruits and vegetables, legumes and lean protein. Then, let your skin show you how it really feels!
7. Exercise
You don’t need to sign up for an expensive gym membership or join an aerobic class you hate. The most important point here is that you sweat – whether it is from taking a brisk walk or opting to take the stairs rather than the lift. Increasing blood flow and releasing bodily toxins helps nourish skin cells keeping them vital.
8. Post Make-up Regimen
We all know make-up looks and applies better when your skin underneath is poppin’! Make a point to wash your face every night after a day with a full face. Don’t forget to wash your brushes regularly to avoid applying residual dirt to your clean face.
9. Visit a Doctor/Dermatologist
If ever in doubt about a skin care product or routine, always consult with a doctor or dermatologist for clarity.
10. HYDRATE from within
When it all comes down to it, the ultimate key to brilliant skin is hydration. Drink plenty of water – not just water but clean water. Buy a water bottle and carry it with you everywhere to encourage daily drinking. Find water boring and tasteless? Spice it up by adding a few slices of a cut up fruit to add some flavor.
