Set on 6 acres of lush woodlands in Karen, our school is a magical haven and playground for the imagination. Responding to a need for an alternative to traditional learning, Waldorf Woodlands school was established by parents and teachers committed to an education that develops the whole child and honors each stage of their development. We offer one of the most progressive, holistic curriculums of our time, with a faculty with over 100 years teaching experience in Waldorf education. Our school is truly a gem in Nairobi’s education landscape.
At Waldorf Woodlands there is no one-size-fits-all approach to learning, as the core guiding principle to childeducation is the deep respect for the individual. We pay special attention to the unique qualities and competencies of each child, working in partnership with parents to support our children in developing their

Early childhood education in the Waldorf Kindergarten is the bridge between family life and school life. The kindergarten classroom is a magical, nurturing environment designed to enliven the imagination and instill in children a curiosity and sense of wonder about the world. Our classroom is a sensory haven with calming colours, enticing scents and tactile natural materials.
Our Kindergarten cultivates the imagination of your child by immersing them in creative stories, songs and plays that inspire and encourage their natural curiosity about the world around them. As children grow, it is this nurtured interest, connection and love that develops positive attitudes to learning. This lays the foundation for
success at each level of education and beyond in their adult lives.
Rhythm weaves a thread of continuity throughout the day, where children are guided through interwoven moments of free play and socially interactive games, dance and storytelling, as they explore and are given the freedom to discover their bodies, nature and express themselves. They also engage in reflective quiet individual activities, such as cooking, watercolour painting, drawing, beeswax modeling, sewing and finger knitting that develop their gross and fine motor skills, cognitive and social skills.
Primary School: Grades 1-7
“Knowledge has value only insofar as it contributes to the all-round development of the whole
nature of man“
Our Primary School builds on the foundation laid in Kindergarten. Primary School at Waldorf Woodlands focuses on nurturing and strengthening the alignment between Head, Heart and Hand. Waldorf education at this level is an immersive experience, paying special attention to both the emotional and physical development of the child as the mind is sharpened, through a very rigorous curriculum.
Our teachers focus on introducing skills, subjects and concepts at appropriate times, allowing children to thrive at every stage. The curriculum focuses on engaging students and creating opportunities for immersive experiences that captivate their interest and allows them to develop a true understanding of subject matters. Students develop a personal context for the subject matter, allowing them to come to their own conclusions on different subjects with the freedom to think outside the box. It is this cultivated skill in the art of learning that distinguishes Waldorf education from its contemporaries. Waldorf education seeks to prepare students for life beyond education.
By equipping each student with the skills and habits required to meet the challenges and opportunities they will face in the world with optimism, confidence and compassion. Waldorf children are found to be better equipped later in life to solve problems creatively, to bring their ideas to life intelligently, with deep compassion for people and environment.
