5 Tips for Surviving through the Holidays Alone

holidays alone

Popular culture defines the holidays as a time for family.  It’s true.  Let’s face it.  All of the commercials we see on television, advertisements online and plastered  billboards – all show families celebrating this time with family.

But what if for some reason – work, travels, bad relationships and other reasons – you find yourself alone this holiday season?  Your relatives are far away.  You’re happily single or perhaps you’ve just overcome a bad divorce.  Your friends have left you for their own family holidays.  You’re alone.

Not to worry, here are 5 tips for how you can survive the holidays alone.

1. VOLUNTEER

Helping others not only will make others feel happy, but also yourself.  What better way than to spend the holidays, a season of giving, with others.

2. TAKE A VACATION

Feeling tired from a long year?  Why not treat yourself to a vacation or spa where you can enjoy your solitude with relaxation.  Pamper yourself. There are cheap holiday deals in Kenya that you can take and enjoy a personal getaway next to the beach or in the wild.

3. LEARN TO BAKE

Cook and bake to your heart’s delight.  Something sweet.  Something savoury.  Try new recipes and tinkle your taste buds with new sensations. Sign up for baking lessons to perfect your skill.

4. HOST A PARTY

Perhaps you’re not the only one that’s celebrating the holiday season alone…so why not, throw a bash for all the strays? You could also ask the guests to bring a snack or a drink to make it merry and make sure you don’t run out.

5. TRY SOMETHING NEW

Go skiing, go hiking or even go shark-cage diving!  The world is full of opportunities to try something new.  This holiday season, celebrate with an open heart and mind to new experiences.

You could even have a wardrobe makeover or sign for knitting classes if you are a fan of DIY.
